Suite à l’immense succès de sa troisième édition, les organisateurs du Film Blitz 2880 s’apprêtent à recommencer! Du 2 au 4 Juin, 2006, les concurrents inscrits au Film Blitz 2880 montreront au public ce qu’ils peuvent réaliser en deux jours (2880 minutes) avec une caméra, de l’imagination et beaucoup de caféine. Il s’agit de la quatrième levée de fonds organisée par la section québécoise de DOC – Documentaristes du Canada.  

L’événement de l’an dernier a connu un succès monstre. Douze équipes ont réalisé douze œuvres magistrales sur le thème « Quelle chance », développé autour d’une enveloppe « par avion ». Les éléments de l’histoire ont été dévoilés seulement à la première des 2880 minutes de la compétition. Les équipes pré-inscrites ont vécu les deux jours suivants à un rythme d’enfer à concevoir le scénario, à parcourir la ville à la recherche de lieux de tournage, à faire le montage du matériel – jusqu’à la dernière des 2880 minutes. Quelque 500 spectateurs se sont retrouvés chez La Tulipe pour applaudir les courts métrages incluant drames, comédies et documentaires, en français et en anglais.

Cette année nous apporterons des modifications intéressantes. Suite au nombre fabuleux de participants qui ont essayé de s’inscrire l’année dernière, les organisateurs travaillent à établir un nouveau processus d’inscription pour l’année 2006. Nous tentons d’améliorer la formule « premier arrivé, premier servi » des années passées afin d’éliminer la nécessité de faire la queue aux petites heures du matin pour avoir la chance de participer au Blitz. Nous aurons également de nouveaux prix et commanditaires.

Nous désirons vous rappeler que vous pouvez consulter notre site Internet pour visionner les films gagnants des trois dernières années. Vous y trouverez également cinq documentaires sur la fin de semaine de création de cinq équipes de l’édition 2005. N’hésitez pas à vous inscrire à notre liste d’envoi en même temps. C’est la meilleure façon de vous tenir au courant de nos activités

2880 FILM BLITZ RETURNS FOR FOURTH YEAR!

After last spring’s wildly successful third year, organizers of the 2880 Film Blitz are now getting into gear to do it all again! .  From the 2nd to the 4th of June, 2006 contestants of the 2880 Film Blitz will show audiences just what can be done in two days (2880 minutes) with a camera, creativity and lots of caffeine. This is the fourth time that this fundraising event is being organized by the Quebec branch of DOC, (the Documentary Organization of Canada). 

Last year was an enormous success. Twelve teams created twelve short masterpieces around the theme “What Luck” and an airmail envelope, story elements they were given to incorporate into their films at the start of the 2880-minute countdown. The pre-registered teams spent the next two heated days coming up with a script, scouring the city for shooting locations and editing the footage -- right up to the deadline exactly 2880 minutes later. Over five hundred audience members filled La Tulipe to cheer on short films that ranged from drama to comedy to documentary, both in French and English.

There are many exciting changes in the works. In response to the overwhelming number of participants who tried to sign up last year, organizers are establishing a new registration process for 2006. The new process will address the “first come, first served” method that was used in past years, eliminating the need to line up before sunrise to take part in the Blitz.  We’ll also be adding new prizes and sponsors.

In case you haven’t yet visited us online, you can watch all the winning films from the past three years, as well as five special “making of” documentaries from the 2005 edition of the Blitz. Make sure to sign up on our mailing list while you’re there. It’s the best way to directly receive all the latest news as it happens.
