MFG member Dave Cool writes:

The McAuslan Brewery is opening a cultural centre on their property in St-Henri (5080 St-Ambroise Street) called the “Centre St-Ambroise”, and they have asked me to be the Director of the space to handle booking and programming.

The Centre St-Ambroise has 2 floors, and the main room downstairs, the Griffon Room, will now be available to the local artistic community for regular events including music shows, film nights, and book launches, as well as workshops, lectures, seminars and other private events/parties etc. The upstairs is the “Maxwell Haus Studios” run by the artist-in-residence Scott Macleod and will be made available for certain events as well.

The Griffon Room has a capacity of about 50-60 people, and is an ideal venue for solo/duo or small group shows. We’re putting in a small stage and PA system, and it is already equipped with a screen and projector to show films or video projections.

The West End was badly in need of a venue, so the McAuslan Brewery should be commended for going above and beyond their current level of support of the Montreal arts community by creating a space where artists can perform and hold their events in the West End.
