Once a Nazi

It's never too late to tell the truth

(Montreal, Quebec) --- Filmmakers Frederic Bohbot and Evan Beloff are proud to invite you to a special sneak preview of their latest collaboration, the documentary thriller Once a Nazi:

Tuesday July 18th at the NFB cinema 1564 St. Denis at 7pm.

This one-hour documentary explores former Concordia professor Adalbert Lallier's tragic story, a man haunted by his connection to the most infamous group of mass murderers of the twentieth century the notorious Waffen SS. Due to his having witnessed the murder of seven concentration camp prisoners; the film juxtaposes an ex-soldier's crisis of conscience with his dramatic testimony fifty-five years after the fact in the last Nazi war crimes tribunal. How do we judge him? How does he judge himself? His current dilemma speaks to the very heart of human forgiveness; a timeless tale of morality using the utter despondency of war as a starting point.

This special screening will be followed by a cocktail and question and answer session with Adalbert Lallier himself as well as prominent Montreal Rabbi, Reuben Poupko and Bill A. Surkis, current director of B'Nai Brith Quebec and former director of the Montreal Holocaust Memorial who both play active roles in the film.

Once a Nazi was made with the generous support of SODEC, The Canadian Independent Film and Video Fund, Saskatchewan Cable Network, Canadian Learning Television, and the National Film Board of Canada. It debuts on Canal D in November. This screening is the first of several sneak previews.

Once a Nazi was produced and directed by Evan Beloff and Frederic Bohbot. This is Frederic Bohbot's first film; he previously worked extensively with renowned filmmaker Magnus Isacsson. Beloff formerly of Diversus productions has written, directed and produced several films including Too Colourful for the League (1999), Schmelvis, Searching for the King's Jewish Roots (2000), Irving Layton, A Red Carpet for the Sun (2001), Women Warriors (TV series/website) (2002-04), Being Osama (2004), Winter Wonderland: The Making of the Ice Hotel (2005) and the Legend of Memphre (2005).
