Two days before International Women’s Day film enthusiasts from across the city will gather to celebrate the handiwork of women filmmakers with Montreal’s first annual (Super) Reel Dames Film Festival.

Co-presented with Cat Call, a monthly open stage for women-fronted performances of all shapes and sizes, SRD is a showcase of film/video projects where women play primary roles (such as director, producer, sound engineer, etc.)

This year’s program features numerous works that range from animation and experimental to amateur and documentary, with submissions from Montreal, Victoria, Berlin and Paris. The majority of the works were done on Super 8 film.

“This festival allows women filmmakers from all levels to screen their work to new audiences,” says co-organizer Hosay Breau. “We hope the evening will attract people from all over the city who want to see some amazing films, as well as have the opportunity to meet people with similar interests and network.”
