Documentary Film What is INDIE? to Premiere in Montreal on May 6th!

After Screenings at Folk Alliance in Austin, Texas and Canadian Music Week in Toronto,

Local Production set for Hometown Premiere

Montreal, April 3rd, 2006 - On Saturday, May 6th at the Sala Rossa (4848 St-Laurent), the documentary film What is INDIE? makes its triumphant return to Montreal after successful screenings in Austin, Texas and Toronto. Produced and directed by Dave Cool, owner of local indie label Stand Alone Records, the Montreal premiere will feature a full-screening of the fifty-minute film and performances by some of Montreals high-profile independent artists, including Paul Cargnello, Andrea Revel, Jean-Franois Fortier and Kali & Dub.

At a time when independent artists in the music industry have more power and control over their careers than ever before, "What is INDIE?" tries to determine just what it really means to be 'indie'. The film features interviews with 20 artists, mostly from Montreal, including Paul Cargnello, Matthew Large (Notre Dame de Grass), Jonathan Cummins (Bionic), Andrea Revel, Paul Gott (The Ripcordz), Annabelle Chvostek, Bloodshot Bill, Tim Rideout, Jean-Franois Fortier and Kali & Dub. Along with the 20 artists, the film also features top indie music experts including Derek Sivers (Founder of CD Baby) and Panos Panay (Founder of Sonicbids).

Does being 'indie' mean that you're "unsigned", or does it mean that you're just not signed to a major record label? Is it possible to be 'indie' on a major label?! The film is sure to spark debate among artists, industry professionals and music fans around the world and could forever change the perception of what it means to be an 'indie' artist!
